Brief History of Raigarh
Before Independence, Raigarh was a princely state and was not directly governed by the British but by a local rulers responsible for running the affairs of their respective state.After Independence, Raigarh was the first princely state to join the Union of India. The district lies between latitude 21°22'- 22°42' North latitude and 82°55' to 83°49' East longitude covering an area of about 6530 sq.kms.This district varies topographically with the lofty forest clad plateau of Pandrapat and Khuria that you’ll find in the north to the dusty plains Raigarh and Sarangarh in the south.

The Raigarh station is located on the Tatanagar Bilaspur section of Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai line. It comes under the Bilaspur railway division. It is well connected with many major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Patna, Ahmedabad, Jaipur etc. The Bilaspur railway station is a regional hub which can take at a distance of 132km from Raigarh. The main railway station Raigarh is situated near the heart of the city. Kirodimal Nagar railway station is another suburb station of Raigarh city. In July 2013, the state government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Airport Authority of India to make Raigarh airport as the states second airport for domestic flights. They have proposed a four lane on NH 216 which is set to connect the airport to the city to make it more efficient.
